Why this matters
The BNS reorganises India's criminal code into 358 sections (down from 511 IPC sections). Most offences carry over with renumbering; some are consolidated, some renamed, and a small set are newly introduced.
For drafts, judgments, and citations dated before 1 July 2024, original IPC section numbers remain authoritative. After that date, BNS section numbers apply.
